Theme: Don’t bear False Witness
( Dan 13:1-9,15-17,19-30,33-62 Ps 23, Jn 8:1-11)
Beloved in Christ, the story of Susanna in the first reading is a biblical teaching on the ninth commandment ” Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor”. Bearing false witness against our neighbors comes with so many reasons. But in the case of the two wicked elders, it was borne out of lust or fleshy desires. A desire to satisfy their human pleasure. But that led to their downfall. God didn’t allow the innocent Susanna to suffer because of the evil scheme of this corrupt elders.
You and I are not better than these elders. We continue to fabricate stories about others just for our own personal interest. Because of your human desires you are bent to destroy the image of your neighbor. God won’t allow it, he will expose you one day, just as he did to the elders.
Some innocent people are in prison because of our false witness. We have lied to crucify our brother or sister. We know very well that what we said or are saying are full of lies, but we continued to perpetuate evil. We may seem to have succeeded but the day of reckoning is near at hand. God will never allow evil to triumph forever. The truth shall surely come to bear one day, even if it takes thousand years.
If you are a victim of false witness, don’t be worried at all, because your God will not allow the corrupt people to crucify you. Continue to trust God and persist in prayer for the truth to prevail. Sometimes because of the players or the people involve, it becomes humanly impossible to unravel the truth. But it is not difficult for God, he is the possibility of the impossibility.
May be you know someone who is suffering from injustices because of false witness, encourage such person. God will speak for him or her one day. He shouldn’t give up hope. God will exonerate him or her at the appointed time. He will shame those evil plotters against his or her life. Sometimes they do all these out of jealousy and envy. God won’t abandon you in the hands of those who seek your downfall.
They shall fall in those traps themselves.
May Jesus help us not to be false witnesses but always uphold the truth in our lives. Amen.
Have a Blessed Week.

Theme: Don’t be a Habitual Complainer
( Num 21:4-9 Ps 102, Jn 8:21-30)
The Israelites continued to complain to Moses on their way to the Promised Land. They complained and wanted to stone Moses when they were thirsty. When they were hungry, again they complained so much. God provided for them and at a point they became fed up with the manna that was given from heaven. These were people who had experienced the mighty works of the Lord, but still resorted to complaining.
We are not different from them. Some of us have made complaining our daily bread, as if we are babies in the faith. Yes, complaining is for babies in the faith. Whatever happens in life we know our God is capable of turning things around for our good. Therefore, we only need to be steadfast in prayer and wait for his own time to act.
But some of us we want the whole world to hear our story. Let’s rather use that period to intensify our prayers. We shouldn’t behave like the Israelites who had short memories. Don’t easily forget the great deeds of the Lord in your life. He who did it before for you will do it again.
Those people we are complaining to have no power to change things for us. Some will end up even mocking you. My brother, my sister you are complaining too much. Stop it and rather continue to pray for God to intervene. For sure he is capable if only we will continue to trust him.
May God increase our faith to avoid habitual complaining. Amen. Have a Blessed Day.

Theme: Submit to the Will of God
( Is 7: 10-14; 8: 10, Ps 40, Heb. 10:4-10, Lk 1:26-38)
Today, our Mother Mary teaches us about one of the lessons in life, and that is being submissive to the will of God. She whole heartedly availed herself for God to use her. ” Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word ” Lk 1:38. She was the vessel that God used to bring the Saviour to the world. It means that she played a role in the salvation of humanity. This acceptance had so many dangerous and hard implications for her.
One of them was that she could have been stoned to death for fornication. Because Joseph didn’t have any affair with her before she got pregnant. Precisely why Joseph wanted to divorce her in secret to avoid all these implications and embarrassments. For the Jews, fornication was a sin which demanded stoning to death.
My dear friends, we need to equally allow the will of God to prevail in our lives. Most of us wants our will rather to prevail. That is why we are struggling in life. We need to seek out the will of God for us. It is only by doing so that we can have fulfilment in life. We will become vessels for great things in this world if we allow him to use us according to his plan.
We are created for greatness, but this can only become a reality if we give the steer of our lives for God to drive. Our will shall surely fade away but his will always endure forever. In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus wished that the Father could prevent his suffering and crucifixion. But he submitted to the will of his father finally. ” Father not my will but your will be done”.
The will of God comes with so many challenges for us which demands endurance. Once it is his will, he will see us through. I want you to make this as part of your prayer life by saying that ” Lord, let your will be done” We can ask something from him but we should allow his will to be done.
It is my prayer that the will of God will always be done in your life. Amen. Have a Blessed day.

Theme: God will give you a transforming name
(Gen 17: 3-9, Ps 105, Jn 8:51-59)
The names we bear mostly have effects on us. The Lord changed Abraham’s name from Abram ( exalted father) to Abraham ( father of a multitude). His current name became his destiny. He truly became the ancestor of the nation Israel. We can also talk about Jabez, whose name meant affliction or sorrow. The mother gave him this name because she bore him in pain. For one reason or the other he prayed for the divine touched of God in his life . Possibly, afflictions became too much for him to bear, because that was the meaning of his name.
You might not need to change your name just like the case of Abraham. But when God’s favour locates you, the effects you are experiencing because of your name changes for good. There is a spiritual turn around. Even though am still Akakpo which might be having negative effects on me, the Lord changes this name spiritually and transforms me to have a better future. Because of his covenant with you, he intervenes in your situation to change your story.
Therefore, let’s be careful with the kind of names we give to our children. No the meaning of that name. It is not a joke, but a real issue. I have encountered a family who used a name, which means poverty. And when you see the family no one should tell you there is negative effects of the name on their lives. But the good news is that God can bring a transforming effects surrounding that name. Pray to God, the destiny changer, to change the name and give you a better future.
May Jesus touch our lives today and change our names and our stories. Amen.
Have a Blessed Day.
