Theme: Don’t be a Miracle Seeking Christian
(Micah 6:1-4,6-8, Ps 50, Matt 12:38-42)

The Jews wanted a sign or a miracle from Jesus before they will believe in him. These were people who have seen a lot of signs and wonders from Jesus but still didn’t believe in him. The truth is that Jesus performed these signs and wonders for people to believe in him and his message as the Messiah sent by God.

Miracles in our Christian context should lead people to faith in Jesus Christ. But you and I can testify that this is not the case at our time. Some of these pastors who claim to be miracle workers only look for fame and riches. Some even use evil powers to perform these miracles. Some are also faking these signs and wonders that they perform. But some are also using the spirit of God to perform these signs.

A number of our people are only seeking miracles in their lives, but not to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. Most of them have no personal relationship with Jesus. They only want a solution to their problems in life. It is not about believing in Jesus and gaining salvation. Precisely why they don’t even discern well to know the calibre of person they are going to or the source of his or her power. They only want solution to their problems, whether the source is good or evil they don’t care.

But the truth is that miracle follow those who seek to do the will of God in their lives always. Once we follow his commandments, his power will also manifest in our lives. Problems will come, challenges will come but he will deliver us through his powerful hand. Some of us are roaming too much and have become prostitute Christians . Unless we don’t hear of any pastor or someone doing miracles, we will get there immediately.

The Christian life is not all about signs and wonders. Our ultimate goal is to gain salvation. These signs and wonders are to help us to achieve this. Hence, miracles become means but they are not an end in themselves. It is important to note that we have genuine men and women of God who are using the right spirit of God to perform signs and wonders. It is a lie to say that signs and wonders don’t exist in Christianity. If Satan can perform them then why not God, who is powerful than Satan? The difference is that the purposes are different and besides the miracles from God are lasting whiles Satan’s own doesn’t.

May the Holy Spirit touch us today so that we don’t become miracle seeking Christians in this world. Amen .
Have a Blessed Day.

Theme: Jesus came for Everybody
(Mic 7:14-15,18-20,Ps 85, Mt 12: 46-50)

The Lord Jesus didn’t come for a particular group of people. He came for the entire humanity. Precisely why he indicated in today’s gospel that his family or his brothers and sisters are those who obey his word. The only qualification to be part of this family is the fact of accepting him as your personal savior. God’s salvation is for all.

It was this condition which qualified the Persian Kings, Cyrus, Darius and Artaxerxes to become instruments of God(Is 44:23-45:8). These were not Jews, but they fought for the interest of the Jews. They supported the rebuilding of the temple with their power as kings. They acknowledged the God of the Israelites as the only true God of the universe. As a result, they used all their powers to promote him in the world. They availed themselves, and God also used them.

It doesn’t matter where you are coming from or the kind of life you have lived before, God can still use you. Just avail yourself. You can become a great instruments of God. Don’t belittle yourself or look down upon yourself. Thinking that you are nobody to become an instrument of God. You are more than qualified provided you accept his message of salvation. You don’t need to come from a recognized Christian home or a prominent family. If God was able to use pagan kings to accomplish his mission, then he can use you. We have had great people of God who were fetish priests and what have you. Some of these people are coming from typical fetish homes. But today they have become great instruments of God. They have even succeeded in converting almost their entire family.

Sometimes some of us behave like the Jews who thought that God was for them alone. Others were not qualified to be called children of God. We also think that some people don’t deserve to even be in the church. We are the only true children of God. Why because maybe we think we are holier than the others. We are living a perfect live, whiles others are very sinful people. We have even taken the place of God in our churches and societies.

May the Holy Spirit help us always not to look down upon people in his house . Amen .

Have a Blessed Day. Shalom.

Feast of St Mary Magdalene
Theme: Look for the Risen Lord
( Song of songs 3:1-4,Ps 63, Jn 20:1-2,11-18)

As we celebrate Mary Magdalene today, it is important to learn something from this dedicated and respected disciple of Jesus.

Mary Magdalene kept on looking for her master until she encountered him. Of course, she couldn’t make him up , it was Jesus who made her to recognized him. This was someone who gave her entire being to love and serve the Lord.

In our moments of distress, let’s turn to the risen Lord. He will surely respond and come to our aid. Sometimes we feel that he is very far from us, but rather he is so close to us than we think. Jesus was with Mary but she couldn’t recognized him. The very person she was crying to see was with her , but because she was blinded spiritually, she couldn’t see.

We are also equally blinded spiritually, making it difficult for us to see the Lord, who is with us . We need to pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to heal us from all forms of spiritual blindness. The Lord knows us by our name, and he is going to respond accordingly, just as it happened to Mary.

Don’t give up in your search and your prayer life. Jesus will answer at the right moment. Keep on pouring your hearts unto the Lord. But remember he is with you in your frustrating situation. Jesus has not abandoned you. Your story will change one day.

May the power of Jesus touch us today and make us recognize him in our lives. Amen.
Have a Blessed Week

Theme: Be opened to the Word of God
( Ex 19: 1-2,9-11,16-20,Ps (Dan 3), Matt 13:10-17)

Beloved in Christ, the word of God call on us to be docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Jesus is pointing out the fact that some of us are blinded and deaf to his word, and lack understanding of his laws. Sin has blinded us, so we are not able to live according to the demands of the gospel message.
We worship God with our lips, but our hearts are far away from God. We have only become lip-service Christians. Some of us have hardened our heart to the extent that, we don’t seem to hear any message of caution. This posture was not different from that of the Pharisees, who refused to accept the message of salvation brought by Jesus.
Brethren in Christ, life they say is so short, hence the need to make amends and repent now. We have only the now but not the future. Because anything can happen at any point in time. Don’t be like the rich man who was looking for second chance after his death. Like I know they say is always at last . Ask yourself whether the life you are living when you die right now, you can be with God in heaven. Don’t deceive yourself that there is no hell. Heaven and hell are real. Therefore, repent now and be saved.
The word of God always has a new message for us. But because we have become so familiar with his word, we fail to accept and comprehend it. ” Oh that today when you listen to his voice, harden not your hearts” Ps 95:7b-8a
May we allow the word of God to transform our lives always. Amen
Have a Blessed Day.

Theme: God will give us shepherds after his own heart
(Jere 3:14-17, Ps (Jere 31), Matt 13: 18-23)

In the first reading of today, God promises the Israelites shepherds after his own heart. It means that there some of the shepherds who were not acting as the mouth piece of God. In fact, they were bad shepherds. They were not acting in the interest of the people, but rather following their own selfish interests.

Beloved, our era needs shepherds who are ready to avail themselves to be used by God for the good of the people. Because more and more, the charlatans are becoming many. They claim to be working for God, but in reality they are false prophets. God hasn’t called them, they are just intruders who have come in to take advantage of God’s people. We need to shine our eyes, so that they don’t take advantage of our ignorance. By their fruits we shall know them. If someone who claims to be a man of God tells you not to use the face of Jesus again but rather his face, then you don’t need an angel to tell you that such a person is not from God. But we have a lot of our people who are following such false prophets blindly, and wasting their resources in addition. A number of our brothers and sisters have stopped their churches and following them blindly. What a pity!!

We need to always pray earnestly for God to give us his ministers who are willing to serve him and humanity. It is not enough to pray to God to give us more labourers in his vineyard. But labourers who are holy and dedicated to his will. We know that there is lack of priests and pastors, but pray for more holy and dedicated priests and pastors and not just more priests and pastors. Today we have more of them who are not serving their core mandate as ministers of God.

May the Holy Spirit help us to always pray for more holy and dedicated ministers of God. Amen .

Have a Blessed day.
Shalom.

Feast of St. James
Theme: Be the Apostles of our Time
( 2 Cor 4:7-15,Ps 126, Mat 20: 20-28)

The apostles were the closest companions of Jesus. He specifically chose them to train them, so that they can continue his mission as ministers to his people. Before his Ascension, he charged them to carry his message to the entire world, of course that included the disciples. Truly, most of them had to die for their faith and St. was of no exception. The blood of the martyrs truly is the seed of the church . The apostles didn’t joke with the mission entrusted to them. Even in the face of persecutions, they still went ahead courageously to spread the good news.

Because of their hard work the message of Christ was able to reach most parts of the world, which includes our part of the world. They preached Christ both in word and in deed. They truly witnessed to Christ in power. This is what they are inviting you and I to follow.

The great commission has also reached our tend to continue (Matt 28:19-20). One thing we should understand is that, the work of God can’t be exhausted by one person or few groups of people. The work is so huge that it demands the efforts of all of us. It is not only for our priests or pastors, our catechists, our elders or in short our religious leaders. Each Christian is called to spread the message of Christ.

In fact, if we have the zeal of the apostles and for that matter the early Christians, we could change the world within a second. As the scripture says, ” zeal for my father’s house consumes me”. Their primary preoccupation was to spread the word of God. But frankly speaking, I don’t think you and I can boast of this zeal. Come to think of the early missionaries, who walked miles and travelled for long distances to preach Christ to others. Today we have the means but we are not ready to go. I could remember two missionaries were taking care of over 60 outstations, and I mean churches in my parish in Afram Plains. These people were able to reach out to all of them in less than two months.

Today some even have less than 10 outstations, but they can’t manage them well. The comfort is becoming too much in the ministry. We need to burn ourselves for the work of God. We can’t sit in our comfort zones and expect the message of Christ to spread. We need to go out and reach out to those yet to receive Christ and those who have backslided. Some people need to be re-evangelised, because they have either lost the faith or it is dying of. We are the legs, the hands, and the other parts of the body that Jesus needs to spread his word. Let’s avail ourselves and we shall truly be the apostles and the early missionaries of our time.

May the power of God touch us today so that we can truly become his messengers and instruments in this world. Amen . Happy feast and have a Blessed Day.
Shalom. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
